Gloucestershire-based Spectrum Medical develops and supplies technology and software used to keep hearts functioning during cardiac surgery as well as a range of other kit used during procedures. Turner and Drain set up the business 20 years ago and have grown operations in Australia, the US and Italy. Turnover has climbed to £82.9m and the firm now has more than 350 staff. CVC Capital Partners pumped in an undisclosed sum to Spectrum in a 2022 deal valuing the company at about £1bn. Turner continues to serve as chief executive, while Drain runs the finance and operations side of the business.
