Harry Hyman is a British entrepreneur who founded Primary Health Properties (PHP) with the vision of investing in and owning purpose-built primary healthcare premises that he could lease back to medical practitioners and health services. After studying at Cambridge University and qualifying as a chartered accountant, Hyman entered property finance, serving as finance director at Baltic before launching PHP in 1995. Under his leadership, PHP floated on the AIM market in 1996 and later moved to the London Stock Exchange main market.
He guided the company through rapid expansion, acquiring hundreds of medical-centre properties across the UK and Ireland and building a portfolio valued at several billion pounds. One of his strategic milestones was the merger with MedicX Fund in 2019, which significantly enlarged the investment base and operational scale. Hyman has positioned the company around predictable rental income streams, long-term leases with health-service providers and modernising the primary-care estate. He has also diversified his interests into publishing, hospitality and philanthropic initiatives, including the International Opera Awards.
In recent years, he announced a transition from chief executive to non-executive chair, to ensure a smooth leadership hand-over while retaining strategic influence. Hyman’s career reflects the fusion of financial discipline, property insight and entrepreneurial ambition — he recognised the enduring need for modern healthcare infrastructure, then built a business model that responds to that need while delivering investment returns.
