Sanghera and Willcocks co-founded Oxford Nanopore from a derelict lab in 2005. The Oxford University spinout is best known for developing devices, some handheld, that can sequence DNA and other genetic information within minutes. So far the technology is mostly used by life sciences researchers and in clinical settings. However, there is an array of other potential uses and in time it may be used to create bespoke diets and exercise plans. Sanghera still serves as chief executive and believes that the company’s devices have the potential to become as ubiquitous as telescopes and microscopes. Willcocks leads on strategy. Oxford Nanopore floated on the stock market in 2021 and the shares now value the business at almost £1.4bn.
