Stephen Fitzpatrick is a British entrepreneur, the founder and CEO of Ovo Energy, the Bristol-based energy company that has become a major force in the UK’s renewable power market. Originally from Northern Ireland, Fitzpatrick studied at the University of Edinburgh and began his career in finance before becoming frustrated by the inefficiency and opacity of the energy industry. In 2009, he launched Ovo Energy with a mission to make energy fairer, simpler and greener.

Starting as a small challenger brand, Ovo distinguished itself through transparent pricing, customer-first service and the innovative use of technology to manage energy consumption. Fitzpatrick’s long-term vision was to leverage digital platforms to create a more sustainable, low-carbon energy system. Under his leadership, Ovo grew rapidly, acquiring SSE’s retail business in 2020, which transformed it into one of the UK’s largest suppliers with millions of customers.

Fitzpatrick has also invested heavily in clean energy innovation, including Kaluza, Ovo’s intelligent energy platform designed to optimise renewable usage and grid efficiency. Beyond Ovo, Fitzpatrick is known for his ventures in mobility and sustainability, including founding Vertical Aerospace, a pioneering electric aviation company developing zero-emission aircraft. Driven by a belief that technology and entrepreneurship can accelerate climate progress, Fitzpatrick has become one of the UK’s most influential voices in the energy transition, combining commercial success with a clear commitment to a cleaner, smarter energy future.
