Herman Narula is a British-Indian entrepreneur and the co-founder and CEO of Improbable Worlds, a pioneering UK technology company that develops the underlying infrastructure for large-scale virtual worlds, simulation and the metaverse. Born in Delhi and raised in the UK from age three, Narula attended Haberdashers’ Aske’s Boys’ School in Elstree and went on to study computer science at Girton College, Cambridge. While studying, he met Rob Whitehead and together they set up Improbable in 2012 with a vision to transform how people inhabit virtual spaces.

Under Narula’s direction, Improbable has secured substantial investment (including a $502m financing in 2017) and developed simulation technology used in gaming, entertainment and defence. The firm has grown from its Cambridge origins to become a global player in metaverse infrastructure, operating at the frontier of Web3, AI and immersive environments. Improbable/ Narula has positioned Improbable not just as a games company but as a builder of “virtual societies” — digital worlds capable of hosting tens of thousands of concurrent users, generating real economies and community experiences.

Narula regularly speaks about the broader implications of virtual worlds — arguing that simulation is becoming the “steel for the 21st century” and that the metaverse must be built with community-centric values, not simply corporate control. As CEO, he continues to drive Improbable’s evolution from technology platform into a venture builder of new companies focused on frontier tech. With a blend of technical depth, entrepreneurial ambition and cultural awareness, Herman Narula stands out as one of Britain’s most innovative tech founders, helping define what the next generation of digital experience may look like.
