Welcome to the new Business Leader

Welcome to the new Business Leader. We’re excited to reintroduce ourselves to the dynamic business community in the UK, starting with our relaunched website and invigorated mission.

At Business Leader we’ve identified a glaring need to support the trailblazers – the founders, CEOs, and entrepreneurs propelling mid-sized companies forward. Our commitment is clear: to inspire business breakthrough. Only 7,500 large corporates exist in the UK. Our purpose is to double this number by empowering 110,000 medium enterprises to scale-up. By doing so we aim to create a robust growth engine, generating more jobs, enhancing individual economic prospects, and ultimately improving society.

We understand more than anyone the unique challenges of established companies looking to scale-up. Our vision is shaped by Richard Harpin, who acquired Business Leader in 2023 with the aim of building a wide-ranging support platform and exclusive membership for founders and CEOs. Richard has personally experienced the trials and triumphs of growing a business, having taken his own venture HomeServe from £50,000 of initial capital to a sale in 2023 for £4.1bn. There are things he knows now that he wishes someone had told him in the early days of HomeServe. If they had, he could have achieved HomeServe’s growth in half the time.

So, Business Leader wants to become the ultimate destination for business insight, tools, community, and mentoring. At our core, we are a place for leaders to learn, network, and grow. Central to our mission is our exclusive peer-to-peer membership community of CEOs and founders, which enhances the support network for those aiming to scale-up their businesses. We invite applications from growth-minded CEOs to join as founding members of Business Leader’s Founders 250 group.

Alongside membership to Business Leader, our content will provide in-depth articles, thought-provoking interviews, and concise updates on what is going on in the world – everything you need to build a successful business.

This includes our relaunched Business Leader magazine as an inspirational, aspirational, and agenda-setting business publication exclusively tailored for the UK business community.  You may have already listened to our Business Leader podcast, where our editor-in-chief Graham Ruddick takes a second look at big business stories and offers an insider’s account of what really happened by speaking to the people at the heart of those events. Meanwhile, Off to Lunch is your daily newsletter rounding up the news, ideas and expertise that matters.

Our engaging events, roundtables and summits will be open to all and are where we create a platform for collaboration and knowledge exchange.

Business Leader’s portfolio of prestigious awards celebrate excellence within the UK business landscape and spotlight the people who are shaping the future of business.

We have big plans, with much in store for the business community, including the UK’s largest Scale-up Summit scheduled for March 2025. This landmark event is designed to bring together visionary leaders, budding entrepreneurs, and industry experts for an experience focused on unlocking growth and innovation. Please register your interest here.

We are eager to hear from you about the content you would like to see across the Business Leader platform, as well as feedback on how we can support you better in your business growth journey. Get in touch with us at thoughts@businessleader.co.uk, and let’s embark on this exciting journey together.
